Remember back in 2008, a time where Jamster ringtones reigned supreme, and MySpace was the go to forum for awkwardly trying to flirt with that cute girl in your Humanities class who thought your name was Brent. A time where the one song mainstream radio played on a continuous loop was Soulja Boy’s “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”, where it was played to the point that you finally understood why there is violence in the world.
Well our old friend Soulja Boy Tellem has now reportedly signed a huge $400 million deal, as he announced on Twitter. However, it currently remains unclear whether the declaration is true or not, or what the deal has entailed, where it seems the only proof that exists of said deal is his word.
$400 million deal confirmed. I still they think they low balled me though. I was thinking 2 or 3 billion..
The Atlanta based rapper has established his status as an entrepreneur, from the release of his SBeezy Lights branded sneakers to the release of his Soulja Board-branded hoverboards. He even oversaw the launch of the official Soulja Boy app that allows people to chat with him, because if there’s something we as a society needs, it’s definitely that. Now whilst he might be wealthy, I’m reluctant to trust him, as the last time I trusted someone who posted photos of themselves with large sums of cash on social media, his name was Trey and he lived off a mixture of Kid Rock and heroin, and he promised to pay me back the money I lent him to fund his fledging rap career before he stole my car stereo.
In a series of Kanye-esque Twitter ramblings, he also gave a shout out to Beyoncé, where it’s been recently revealed that he received writing credit on the song “Hold Up” from her newly released album Lemonade. Having not released any major works since 2010, he has reportedly made millions of dollars from ringtone sales and is mostly still receiving publishing royalties from his magnum opus debut single. It is speculated that the intimate details regarding his apparent multi-million dollar deal will be revealed closer to the release of his new album, slated for release June 1 and entitled Better Late Than Never. Whatever the deal may be, he’s now apparently an incredibly wealthy man, and it would be great if he could donate to our Patreon account
