THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN Plan Escape From Music (i.e. They Breakin’ Up)

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN Plan Escape From Music (i.e. They Breakin’ Up)

After close to 20 years of physically assaulting punters with their unique brand of heavy prog, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN have announced that they will most likely be calling it quits after the release of their forthcoming album, Disassociation (out October 14 via Party Smasher Inc./Cooking Vinyl). Whilst still unclear on whether or not they’ll be breaking up for good, or just going on an extended hiatus, the announcement of the band’s dissolution initially came in an interview with Vice’s P.C. cuck music publication, Noisey. Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman had the following to say: “Well, I think in some ways we didn’t want to pull a Seinfeld, you know what I mean? The band has actually never been more prolific and we’re as credible and popular as ever. I think whenever we’re on stage, there’s not another band in the world playing at that time that even comes close to us, and that’s our goal. We’re really excited about this new album as well, but at the same time, it’s going to be our 20-year anniversary in 2017 — it might be even longer because I’m not sure when I started writing songs, but the first EP came out in ’97 — so I think it’s one of those things where we didn’t want to get to the point where we’re stopping because we have to or because we’re old or people are kind of over it. Who knows if that would ever happen, but I feel way more empowered in making hard decisions. I don’t like the idea of slowing down or doing it less often,... read more
High-End New York Fashion Store Selling AUD$350 BLACK FLAG, JOY DIVISION T-Shirts

High-End New York Fashion Store Selling AUD$350 BLACK FLAG, JOY DIVISION T-Shirts

Finally, the calls of the modern-day bourgeoisie punk and metal fan have been answered. High-end New York fashion store Barneys have released a line of band shirts, including Black Flag, Joy Division, Metallica and Guns n’ Roses, but these badboys are going to set you back a little more than your $5 op-shop find. Beginning at a paltry AUD$128 for a Van Halen shirt, obviously because nobody actually likes the Van Halen , the most expensive shirt in the collection is their “distressed look” Black Flag number, clocking in at a testicle-receding AUD$350. What better way to express your inner punx on casual Fridays at the money factory (or wherever you work, Captain Richguy) than a dank shirt that you can buy for $15 anywhere else online, but ew lol. Next up is their snazzy Joy Division shirt, featuring the incredibly rare image of the album cover of Unknown Pleasures. You can snap it up for just AUD$295, the same price you can literally buy 19 identical shirts online, but again, you’re not a normiefag punk fan. There’s also Black Sabbath, The Cure, Run DMC, Motorhead, David Bowie and Pink Floyd shirts all for AUD$230 in case you’re on a budget. Rebelling against the establishment is so passe. The ultimate rebellion is support for the capitalist agenda. If you’re making your own punk merch or buying official merchandise from bands, then lol at you, you don’t even know how to properly function in a post-ironic... read more

Melbourne locals Pridelands have released a new single titled ‘Coalesce’, the first release since their 2015 debut EP Natives. ‘Coalesce’ has been described as more “refined” and “focused” than their previous effort, and the accompanying film clip (directed, shot, and edited by Kieran Ellis-Jones) is equally hard-hitting, packed with pretty dece cinematography and whatnot. The band are also booked in for two Melbourne shows this Friday (as in tomorrow – July 29th) and again in August at the Evelyn alongside Hellions. You can purchase tickets here. RELATED: BRAND NEW Sort Of Announce Break-Up With A Snazzy T-Shirt The renowned Long Island sadboys have been cryptic in sharing the future of their group with their fans, with rumours persisting that their next record will be their final entry after frontman Jesse Lacey told fans at a show in Nashville last year that Brand New “isn’t going to last much longer”. NAILS Cancel European Tour Dates & Reportedly Go On Hiatus, Internet Loses Its Mind

The metal and hardcore community has gone into maximum potato mode after various media outlets have reported that wildly popular hardcore crossover act NAILS have cancelled their European shows and gone on hiatus, leaving many fans and detractors alike asking “Y tho”. The news came on Monday in the form of several posts by U.K promoters, with one dropping a bombshell by stating that Nails have reportedly called it a day. ”Important: Unfortunately this show has been cancelled. Nails have gone on hiatus with no plan to play live or record again. For refunds, please contact your point of purchase.” Another promoter from The Underworld in Camden, U.K, posted a similar statement to the show’s event page. Nails have copped a huge amount of critical acclaim for their most recent album You Will Never Be One Of Us, leaving behind their underground cool-guy obscurity for an unprecedented level of mainstream success. Some fans have speculated that frontman Todd Jones has buckled under the pressure and screwed the pooch, while others are hoping for something a little less dramatic. If the statements from promoters is anything to go by, however, it looks like the former may be true after all. RELATED: Album Review: Nails – ‘You Will Never Be One of Us’ With no official word from the band or Todd Jones as of yet, we’ll have to cope with shitty puns on the album name and the blistering editorial from MetalSucks, in which Axl Rosenberg called Jones a “frat house bully” and that his “power derives from anti-intellectual tribalism, machismo, and persecution.” No chill. MACAULAY CULKIN’s Pizza-Themed Cover Band To Release Album

MACAULAY CULKIN’s Pizza-Themed Cover Band To Release Album

In 2013, actor Macaulay Culkin started a pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute band, aptly named Pizza Underground. And now, after a two-year long silence (because they were booed offstage one time in 2014), it’s been revealed that the band have been working on an album. In an interview with The Guardian, Culkin also stated that the upcoming album will feature a children’s choir and a symphony orchestra, and described the project as his “gift to the world”. About the band itself, Culkin said that “[Pizza Underground is] one of those good ideas you have when you’re drunk, and you wake up and forget about it.” Kind of like when you think you being an actor might be a good idea. But then it isn’t. Anyway, you can check out some footage from the band’s first concert... read more

AGAINST ME! To Release New Album Later This Year

AGAINST ME! To Release New Album Later This Year

American rock group Against Me! have announced that their new album, Shape Shift With Me, will be released later this year on September 16th (via Total Treble / Cooking Vinyl Australia). Shape Shift With Me acts as a highly anticipated follow-up to their previous critically acclaimed studio album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues. Frontwoman Laura Jane Grace had this to say about the new album: “Tons of people have written about love. But while love is cliché, it’s infinitely relevant. For me, having always been in a punk band that was expected to be political, I never felt like I had that option to write about feelings in that way. That’s what I ended up being drawn to this time. It’s writing in a way I thought I could never write before, and not giving a shit about expectations […] Is there a record that is about relationships from a trans perspective? There needs to be more records about trans rights and everything like that, but feeling like I already did that, I wanted to move on to write commentary on living from a trans perspective. I wanted to write the transgender response to the Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St., Liz Phair’s Exile In Guyville and the Streets’ A Grand Don’t Come For Free. All those records are relationship records. There’s been an infinite amount of records talking about what love means from a cisgender perspective. I wanted to present the trans perspective on sex, love and heartbreak.” Grace has also announced the upcoming release of her memoir titled TRANNY: Confessions Of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout. The memoir... read more
