BRAND NEW vocalist Jesse Lacey delivered a heartfelt and emotional speech to fans during a show in the US over the weekend, arousing rumours of a possible hiatus/breakup of the New York based group.
Fan footage has surfaced of Lacey delivering a speech to the crowd at a performance in Nashville, Tennessee, in which he spoke candidly of the future of the iconic alt-rock quartet, appearing wrought with emotion whilst still displaying hopes for the group’s long-awaited follow up to 2009’s Daisy.
“Being in a room like this is really special. Personally, I don’t feel adequate, or worth it, playing on this stage. But, I know that Garrett and Vinnie and Brian are absolutely worth it,” Lacey stated.
After embracing his fellow band members, Lacey continued, “Without the three of them, I never would’ve gotten to do any of this. And so thanks to them, for my life. I’m gonna have a new daughter. We’ll hopefully have a record for you. I wanna tell you right here and now, this isn’t gonna last much longer, but it’s been so special for so long.”
As Jesse voiced his thoughts on the future of Brand New, the crowd fell silent, before the group launched into a performance of Play Crack The Sky.
The comments have sparked rumours of what is believed could be a potential breakup of the band, who formed in 2000, producing multiple revered releases including 2003’s Deja Entendu and The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me in 2006.
Rumours over the band’s involvement in the lineup of 2016’s Soundwave were quashed by promoter AJ Maddah, who speculated that the group’s next visit to Australia would be a headliner on Twitter last April.
