CJ McMAHON Rejoins THY ART IS MURDER, Band Insists Things Will Be Different This Time

In a shocking turn of events no one but their best friends saw coming, CJ McMahon is yet again the vocalist for Sydney deathcore group, Thy Art Is Murder. Apparently finding a way to live like this again, CJ boldly strode on stage with the group at 2017’s UNIFY festival clearing wearing clothes someone else had presumably stumped up for, demonstrating that everyone deserves a second chance and that dreams can come true. Twice. Initial reports from snot-nosed brats tweeting from directly in the pit suggest the show was electrifying and powerful, like make-up sex. In this day and age, it’s a remarkable achievement that this unveiling stayed such a well-kept secret, despite the fact the signs were all there, and all anyone had to do was talk about it, just bring it out in the open. Without letting his other band members talk to the press or fans, or make eye contact with other vocalists, CJ’s return has all the inspirational hallmarks of both a sportsmanlike come-back and that awkward, whispered argument you see at shopping centres sometimes. By all accounts the band are happy to have him back in the fold and be settled back into a routine, and no everything’s fine, really, he just gets like that sometimes but honestly I think he’s learned a lot and he’s going to try much harder to be attentive and to really listen this time. He’s working now too and that’s really good for him. No official statement or disheartened sigh has been issued from the Thy Art camp, and at this stage there is only speculation about what... read more

STICK TO YOUR GUNS Announce Australian Tour

Southern Californian natives Stick To Your Guns are heading down under in two weeks’ time, alongside Knocked Loose and Aussie lads Relentless & Reactions. STYG have released a handful of albums over the years and have acquired a decent following because of it. Their new EP, Better Ash Than Dust, was released last September via Pure Noise Records. Likewise, Knocked Loose have recently released their debut full-length record, titled Laugh Tracks, through the same label. I’ve seen some mention of them here and there, so they’re either pretty good or pretty bad. This will be the band’s first time visiting Australia. Tickets for the tour are on sale now – you can purchase them here. In the mean time, check out the poster and dates below. LESS THAN JAKE Announce New EP

LESS THAN JAKE Announce New EP

American ska/punk/whatever band Less Than Jake has announced a new EP titled Sound The Alarm, which is set to be released on February 3 via their new label, Pure Noise Records. Lyricist and drummer, Vinnie Fiorello, had this to say about it: “We started writing this set of songs, similar to our last record See The Light, sitting around a table in our warehouse with some acoustic guitars, lyrics scribbled on scraps of paper, and a constant barrage of ideas,” Fiorello explains. “Trying ideas as they would come out, sometimes chasing the idea, or getting connected or not connected to an idea right away. We had been writing and were planning on fleshing out the ideas while on Warped Tour.” And, after many years of releasing albums through a variety of major and independent labels, the band have settled on a Southern Californian based label called Pure Noise Records. “When I met Jake at the San Francisco stop of Warped Tour, we talked about working together,” Fiorello adds. “He is a longtime fan, knows the history and the arch of LTJ and that’s important to know where we have to go. It’s always great to have a mutual respect between band and label and that is exactly what we have between LTJ and Pure Noise.” You can pre-order the new record here, and stream ‘Things Change’... read more

LIKE ROYALS Confront Demons In New Single + Video

Sydney metallers (I don’t think that’s a word but it is now, fuck you) Like Royals have released a new single titled ‘Wither Away’, which deals with the battle between addiction and sobriety. Described as a “deeply personal song” for the band, ‘Wither Away’ confronts one of the largest issues within contemporary society and vocalist Landon Kirk hopes it might prompt some change. “The song is ultimately about the battle of sobriety versus intoxication, throughout the song lyrics and instrumentation convey a distinct dark atmosphere,” he said. Likewise, guitarist Alex Kresojevic added, “Many of the lyrics in the song point out the fact that our problems are still very much real regardless of the temporary relief a substance can provide us.” The band also released a video to accompany the single. You can watch it below. Like Royals plan on touring early next year alongside Brave Today. They’ll be stopping at Brisbane, Toowoomba, Sydney, Wollongong, and Melbourne to name a few locations. DEAD LETTER CIRCUS Announce 2017 Tour

DEAD LETTER CIRCUS Announce 2017 Tour

Brisbane locals Dead Letter Circus announced yesterday that they will be touring Australia early next year in celebration of it being one decade since releasing their debut self-titled EP. What were you doing ten years ago? Listening to DLC? Either way, ten years is a fascinating amount of time to look back upon. Frontman Kim Benzie elaborates: “I literally can’t wrap my head around that this crazy ride has been going for nearly 10 years […] I still remember pulling over the car yelling and screaming when I heard ‘Disconnect and Apply’ on triple j for the first time. The fact that people connected so deeply with our frantic hyper rock to this day still blows my mind. […] We thought the most fitting way to honour the ten year anniversary of the EP and the people and the audience who became our road family, was to completely re-invent and invert the songs in a new studio form, and take them on road to some of our favourite venues. We can’t wait to show you the new versions of the songs.” The Endless Mile Tour will visit Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, and Adelaide in March 2017. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday 14th December. DEAD LETTER CIRCUS AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES: Thursday 2nd March – New Globe Theatre, Brisbane, QLD Friday 3rd March – The Factory Theatre, Sydney, NSW Saturday 4th March – Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle NSW Friday 10th March – Max Watts, Melbourne VIC Saturday 11th March – Uni Bar, Adelaide... read more

sleepmakeswaves To Support DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT

Devin Townsend Project is making their way down under in 2017, and just earlier today Australian post-rock group sleepmakeswaves announced they will be the support for the entire tour. The band have toured across the world since recording and releasing Love Of Cartography, and have accompanied numerous bands including Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, Skyharbour, and even COG. Bassist Alex Wilson had this to say regarding the tour alongside Devin Townsend Project: “So glad to be offered the opportunity to support Devin Townsend when he comes to Australia in 2017. It was a great surprise and honour to get the news while we’re hunkered down preparing our new album for next year. Really excited about the new music and live shows ahead.” Devin Townsend Project was last in Australia in 2015. You can purchase tickets for the Australia/New Zealand tour... read more
Convicted Pedophile/Former LOSTPROPHETS Frontman Ian Watkins To Release New Music From Prison

Convicted Pedophile/Former LOSTPROPHETS Frontman Ian Watkins To Release New Music From Prison

Remember back in June this year when disgraced former As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis somehow gained access to the band’s official Facebook page in prison and posted a Happy Father’s Day message to all his fans? Yeah, same here, and it was a right laugh. Not quite as funny as when he tried to sue a Californian medical team who were responsible for his treatment in prison, claiming their negligence led to him growing a set of tits and demanded $35 million for the trouble. In short, laughing at people who are in prison is wildly funny, and my friends and I often make a day out of heading on down to our local penitentiary to have a hearty chuckle at the weak-willed sad men in jumpsuits, trudging around the exercise yard holding little hope for the future. Hilarious. What’s not quite as funny, however, is when convicted pedophile and former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins pulls the same sneaky trick, somehow gaining access to social media — in this case Twitter — to advise fans of his new and upcoming musical project, L’AMOUR LA MORGUE. New! SEQUENCE INITIATED https://t.co/uGCu53LOou on #SoundCloud — ian watkins (@ian_watkins) November 21, 2016 For the fortunately unfamiliar, Watkins was sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2013 after multiple counts of sexual offences with a minor, including a one-year-old girl, with one prosecutor describing Watkins as “potentially the most dangerous sex offender” they had ever seen. It appears that not only are you allowed access to social media while in prison, you can also apparently gain access to recording equipment to smash... read more
